Socialising 2.0
Got myself updated on a whole new level of social behaviour… Created a profile on Facebook. I tried to boycott it till now as I thought the Brno bars and clubs were a social utility enough to connect me with the people around me. However, gotta say that the application seems quite smart and I am happily mingling with my past and more current peers. These applications are like parallel universes, where you can easily spend the whole day offering your friends virtual drinks and all sorts of other bling bling. I mean, I probably won’t become that a heavy user, but still it is a fun toy to “spy” what those more distant friends and acquaintances are up to these days. Comes in handy, especially in times of globetrotting.
But what really irritates me are these virtual “shopping windows” where the more exhibitionistic people like to post flirty pics of themselves for others to rate. How many teenage girls have had their week ruined just because someone rated their hot shot as 8.0 instead of 9.0 (that went to the slightly slutier class mate). Those are some serious self esteem traps there. One of the platforms or whatever that is pissing me off these days is the Finnish IRC-Galleria. It started off as a good idea, but which now is totally taken over by teeny people. You upload idiotic photos with even more idiotic comments. Lol, ihq! And then you have the slightly older folks ( read: men) drooling over those hot little lolita pics. Yak! Jeziz Maria!
But yea, I will still try to maintain as much as live connection as possible with my local crowd here. Brno bars still act as my main utility for socialising. But for the virtual reference…In addition to facebook I also “exist” in such more pro networks as Xing and LinkedIn. So maybe we'll meet again in the virtual universe!!
